SPINTEC is opening a Professorship position, with competition to take place during Spring 2021. The research scope is theory and numerical simulation, covering all aspects from fundamental to applied spintronics in the broadest sense. The research focus is the modeling of specific properties induced by spin-orbit effects, with the aim on the one hand to interpret the experimental results, and on the other hand to make predictions. In practice, the experimental observables may be the symmetry of effects, current threshold and switching speed of magnetic nanostructures or textures (walls or magnetic skyrmions). Given the large number of interrelated physical phenomena (damping, spin transfer torques, electric field impact on anisotropy, spin pumping, coupling with micromagnetic dynamics and inhomogeneous currents), exhaustive simulations are necessary to understand the respective roles of the different physical effects. New multi-physics and multi-scale tools must be designed with this objective in mind, continuing Grenoble’s long tradition of developing micromagnetic codes. Beyond the initial physical studies to be carried out, a key objective is to provide innovative codes to support the local community of experimental physicists in the field.
The position is linked with the Engineering Institute of the University Grenoble Alpes (Grenoble INP) as regards the teaching duties. More precisely, this concerns the PHELMA faculty, devoted to Physics, Electronics and Materials. Grenoble INP is a public institution offering engineering courses with solid basic scientific content, a high technological specialization in connection with strong societal challenges related to digital, industrial, environmental and energy transitions. and a major internationalization of its courses. Grenoble INP is a mother institution of more than 30 research laboratories, some of them international, and platforms where state-of-the-art research is carried out to develop knowledge, promote it to our industrial partners and transfer it to students. Grenoble INP is thus at the heart of the technological challenges of the future: Energy and materials; Digital sciences; Micro nanotechnology; Future industry and eco-efficient production in which international rankings recognize it as a leading player
