Our colleague Hélène Béa, associate professor at the University Grenoble Alpes, was appointed Junior Member of the Institut Universitaire de France (IUF) beginning from October 1, 2021 for a period of five years.

The IUF distinguishes every year a small number of university professors and associate professors for their research excellence and international recognition, providing theses members additional support for their research activities. The research project of Hélène Béa in the framework of IUF selection will be devoted to the gate control of magnetic skyrmions for low power, dense and versatile spintronic applications.

Assoc. Prof. H. Béa (40 years old) works in the Sensor Group at SPINTEC and carries out research on the experimental control of magnetism by a gate voltage. She more particularly focuses on the physics and possible applications of gate control of interfacial magnetic properties such as magnetic anisotropy and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. She published 43 papers in peer-reviewed journals including Nat. Mater., Nano Lett., Phys. Rev. Lett., Phys. Rev. B, Phys, Rev. Mater, Phys. Rev. Appl., J. Phys. Condens. Matter, filled two patents and delivered numerous invited talks including at MRS Fall meeting (2012 and 2007), MRS Spring meeting (2007), Journées surfaces and Interfaces (2019), International Reliability Physics Symposium (2014) and CIMTEC (2018). She is currently in charge of the Nanophysics track of the Nanosciences Master 2 at the University Grenoble Alpes.
She will officially be inducted into the IUF in autumn 2021 during an official ceremony in a prestigious place in Paris (Sorbonne, Collège de France or Institut de France).
