John Slonczewski when visiting Spintec in July 2005
We learned with great sorrow that John Slonczewski passed away during the night of Thursday 30th May 2019. John was born in 1929. During most of his carrier, he has been theoretician at IBM Yorktown. He made lot of outstanding contributions to the field of magnetism and spintronics. All of us know his outstanding contributions to the understanding of tunnel magnetoresistance in magnetic tunnel junctions and his prediction of spin transfer torque. But earlier, he did also major contributions in the field of domain wall dynamics and many others. He always worked very closely to experimentalists. He was a very friendly and humble man. The whole magnetism and spintronics community will greatly miss him.
